Christmas in April
Once again, the FMA at Portland State
University joined
with others to clean, repair, and paint homes of the low-income elderly.
Over 60 homes received face lifts this year.
See the pictures of the home that we worked on this year.
The first picture was taken early in the morning when work had just begun.
With several hours of hard work, we had lunch and poised with our FMA
banner to mark the half way point.
It was more and more work, until the home was completed.
Notice the difference. Unfortunately, what you can’t see is how much fun we
had and how much our work was appreciated by the home owner and the
neighbors.
This program that we participated in is national –
operating in many cities. Local civic and religious groups nominate the
recipients. After interviews, 60+ were selected for 2004. The home owners
select the paint colors and types of flowers wanted as well as identifying
major repairs that are needed. The major repair was rewiring the entire
house. Electricians came to do that for us.
The program had been called Christmas in April, but was
recently changed to Rebuilding Together – Christmas in April Program.
